Dave Behrens is an award winning Brisbane artist who has exhibited nationally and overseas. His vigorously patterned work can be found in private collections globally.
Behrens has been painting in acrylic since 2002 primarily to investigate the themes of identity and self. He has developed a distinctive mark making and pattern forming technique that references ancient cultures, tribal art and hieroglyphs. The artist's mix of universal symbology and pop kitsch aesthetic produces a whimsical yet deceptively provocative range of work.
Behrens has recently begun applying his technique to 3-D objects with interesting results. His Pear series evokes body art, with the object's unique form offering further connotations of image and identity.
